How long-term crated storage works

Crated storage groups belongings into storage crates for a planned period, with collection and return arranged through the moving team.

Choose the belongings for a longer pause

Begin with the items you expect to put away for a substantial period. Make a room list, then separate the belongings that must remain with you during that time. A daily-use document, medication or essential kitchen carton should not disappear into the storage inventory just because the room is being cleared.

Long-term crated storage brings collection, inventory planning, protective preparation and the eventual return into one conversation. Tell the team why the belongings need storage and which dates are known. A renovation, a gap between homes and a partial-household collection may contain similar furniture but need different schedules.

Describe collection as its own part of the work

List large furniture individually and estimate cartons by room or category. Flag unusual weight, delicate materials, disassembly and any existing damage that should be discussed. Explain stairs, elevator access and the carry route to the collection vehicle. Photos or dimensions can help the team understand an awkward piece before the appointment.

Ask which preparation, packing and protective materials are reflected in the estimate. Keep labeled hardware with the relevant furniture and retain your own readable inventory outside the stored cartons. If another room or a substantial piece is added, update the request rather than assuming the original scope still describes the collection.

Plan access and the return at the beginning

Access and retrieval are scheduled through the team; this service is not 24/7 self-storage. If you expect to need a particular group before the final return, identify it before collection. Ask how that request would be reviewed, including handling, scheduling and any charges, so the arrangement fits the way you expect to use it.

Give the likely return address when known and describe its access separately. Your destination may have different stairs, loading restrictions or room priorities. Use the inventory and return plan to connect the stored groups with the rooms they will eventually occupy, and the scheduled-access guide to prepare retrieval questions.

Your next-step checklist

  • Choose what stays accessible throughout the storage period.
  • List furniture, carton counts and any difficult pieces.
  • Record collection access and the likely storage duration.
  • Identify groups that may need an earlier scheduled return.
  • Review collection, storage and delivery together before confirming.
